Lik vampirice u Nazorovoj noveli „Jessie” / The Character of a Female Vampire in Nazor's Novella ”Jessie”
Institution: Lect. PhD., Department of Slavic Studies, Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, University of Bucharest
Email: sanja.frankovic@gmail.com
Keywords: Vladimir Nazor; the novella “Jessie”; the vampire motif; the Gothic features; the ambivalent symbolism of autumn; antimodernism; the metaphor for capitalism
Abstract
The novella “Jessie” was published in the final part of Nazor's collection The Stories from the Island, from the City and from the Mountain (1927). Unlike the previous two parts, dedicated to the narrator's childhood, the part “Stories from the Mountain” contains novellas in which the mountain and forest areas indicate the narrator's psyche at a mature age, after facing disappointments and his own omissions. In these novellas, the narrator separates himself from his childhood memories but also from his mythological and legendary creative phase. The Gothic motif of a female vampire in the novella “Jessie” symbolises the ambivalence of autumn as a season of fertility but also of the exhaustion and death of nature. Although the narrator follows the concept of a landscape with a secret, typical of the anti-modernist poetics of irrational counter-worlds from the period of Croatian Moderna, he renounces it in the end, whereby the motif of the vampire is understood as superstition and a dream. However, while breaking up with the poetics of Croatian Moderna, the novella “Jessie” still preserves an anti-modernist distance from the city as a place where the narrator is misunderstood and loses his energy, so he finds refuge in nature. Therefore, along with her role of the personification of autumn as an attractive but also morally dubious woman, the vampire Jessie is also a metaphor for capitalism, so the Gothic motif served in the articulation of the anxieties of society before the changes brought by the capitalist economy and liberal social order.

Abstract
The Road to Nowhere is a dense social and political radiography, remarkable not only for the consistency of its narrative, but particularly for its moral message. One of the first anti-totalitarian literary works, the novel convincingly reveals the mechanism of action of the Bolshevik system and its harmful influence on the moral and biological degradation of human beings.

Поетиката на водата во поезијата на Ацо Шопов / The Poetics of Water in the Poetry of Aco Shopov
Institution: Lect. PhD., Department of Slavic Studies, Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, University of Bucharest
Email: elenagorgiovska@hotmail.com
Keywords: poetics; water; Aco Shopov; poetry; imagination
Abstract
This text focuses on the poetry of Aco Shopov, one of the most significant poets of the Macedonian 20th century. The poetic of water in Aco Shopov's poetry, spanning his three poetic phases, is traced by the theoretical interpretations and the poetic of natural elements developed by Gaston Bachelard. The goal of this text is to reveal all of how we can interpret water in Shopov's poetry, as it appears in two contrasts: as pure water, tranquil water, the water of silence, but also as murky, impure water, devastated water, sad water. Water appears in his poetry as a substance of imagination, feelings, inspiration, suffering, and creation. The significant possibilities opened up by the poetic of water in Shopov's poetry demonstrate that water, like Shopov's poetry, is the master of fluid speech, which knows no stagnation.

Aspects of the image of “enemy” in Dimitrije Demetar's Grobničko polje
Institution: Asist. PhD. National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece
Email: pgkoranis@slavstud.uoa.gr
Keywords: Renaissance; Romanticism; Illyrianism; national awakening; Tatars
Abstract
Romanticism in Croatian literature principally coincided with the Renaissance period, identified among literary historians as Illyrianism. While substantially a political movement, as a complex of stylistic features, it displays all characteristics of European Romanticism, along with specific attributes of its own. Above all, Croatian Romantic literature served to consolidate modern national feeling but also had its own poetics and preferred reading material. Croatian Romantic literature was closest to the German cultural sphere before being dominated for a long time by Slavonic influences and later, to a lesser degree, by Romance and English literature. Dimitrije Demetar was a Greek Croatian poet, dramatist, short story writer, and literary critic. One of his most leading works is his poem Grobnik Field, written in 1842 for the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Grobnik Field, where, according to legend, the Croats defeated the invading Tatars. In this paper, we will examine the delineation of the image of the enemy as an author's structural narrative motif for awakening the Croatian nation.

Трипартитна подела ероса у приповеткама српског романтизма и реализма као предлог једног еротолошког модела / Tripartite Division of Eros in the Short Stories of Serbian Romanticism and Realism as a Proposal of an Erotological Model
Institution: Researcher, 3rd, Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts
Email: jovanajo90@gmail.com
Reywords: romanticism; realism; short stories; folklore; procreation; medial eros; abstinence
Abstract
The erotological model presented in the paper was shaped by relying on the folklore context of the stories of Serbian romanticism and realism. The given model consists of three types of eros: procreative, medial and abstinent eros. Procreative eros (passion directed towards birth) is recognized through the cult of ancestors and the family hearth. Paradigmatic examples of short stories in which the eros of procreation is present are analyzed in the stories of Janko Veselinović. Medial eros (the passion that mediates between the heavenly and the earthly) is interpreted as a transitional erotological category. It is read through stories based on folk ballads in which the death of a lovers can be interpreted as a type of sacrifice that brings a certain benefit to the community (an analogy with sacrificial rites in the agricultural cult). Such examples are “Crni Mijailo” by Jovan Subotić and “Gorde, or how a Montenegrin woman loves” by Stjepan Mitrov Ljubiša. Abstinence eros will be found in the stories of Serbian romantics and will mean a passion directed towards the heavenly and eternal. The cult basis of abstinence eros will be reflected in the Kosovo myth, that is, in the pattern of the heroic cult (feat, suffering, the otherworldly realm of eternal life).

Abstract
The following article addresses the concept of simulated reality in contemporary Russian literature and is based on the notion of hyperreality introduced by Jean Baudrillard in his work Simulacra and Simulation . This article analyzes different simulated models present in the consumer society, the strategies used by the authorities to promote and implement these models, their effects on citizens and the purpose for which they were generated. To discuss all these aspects, the works of Viktor Pelevin and Olga Slavnikova were taken into consideration.
The study is based on the sociological research of Jean Baudrillard, Zygmunt Bauman, Mihaela Constantinescu etc. Also, a lot of attention is devoted to the means by which the mass media facilitate the propagation of these simulated realities, as well as the promotion of identities and false needs through the action of advertisements.
In general, the study aims to reflect the situation of consumer society, the attitudes and beliefs of younger generations.

Email: andreea.dunaeva@lls.unibuc.ro
Keywords: Theophan Prokopovich; Russian Classicism; About Poetic Art ; the principles of Classicism
Abstract
A remarkable man of culture and supporter of the reforms of Peter the Great, author of brilliant oratorical works, as well as poet, Th. Prokopovich was the first to present some of the principles of Classicist poetics in Russian culture.
He wrote in Latin the treatise About Poetic Art , in which he presented a series of principles which would later be developed by the scholars of Russian Classicism, primarily by M.V. Lomonosov, and which would become the basis of this literary movement. Among these principles are the necessity to imitate some models, the requirement to depict in tragedies only the deeds of important people, a play should be composed of five acts and the action should not extend over more than two or three days.
Also, Prokopovich emphasizes the need for a clear distinction between the literary genres and species and between different stylistic registers. Before M.V. Lomonosov, Th. Prokopovich establishes the need for a correspondence between the content of a literary work and the words used to express it.
All these principles discussed in the work About Poetic Art , as well as his own literary and oratorical creation, especially the epic poem Epinikion , in which he praises the victory of the Russian army in the battle of Poltava, place Th. Prokopovich at the beginning of Classicism in Russian literature, as a veritable precursor of the literary movement.

О концепте «родина» в православной славии (культурологические размышления) / On homeland concept in Slavia Orthodoxa (some culturological thoughts)
Institution: Prof. PhD. Universitity of Vienna
Email: anna.kretschmer@univie.ac.at
Keywords: concept; homeland; diachronical aspect, Slavia Orthodoxa
Abstract
In this paper some remarks about the diachronic axis of the concept homeland will be presented. The focus of the presentation lies on the area of the so called Slavia Ortho doxa – and on the later pre-standard as well pre-national period of it (16 th –18 th cent.). The concept homeland is highly determined by the concrete ethnical, cultural and historical aspects and has to be described separately for every region, every period and every cultural landscape. Here we deals especially with the different subtypes of culture of Slavia Orthodoxa – in the late Moscow Russia, among the East Slavs in Grand duchy of Lithuania and in the Serbian areas which were not under turkish power – before the so called Great exodus of 1690. and after that. Another thematic focus of the paper is the empirical basis of the approach – first of all, the adequate text corpus for research purposes.

A Russian Trace in the Balkans : on an Item Discovered in the Historical Russian Library in Athens
Institution: Assist. PhD.,

Email: esartori@slavstud.uoa.gr
Keywords: Russian literature; mentalities; Russian emigration Balkans, popular fiction, reception theory
Abstract
Among the books included in the library of the Greek-Russian Retirement Home in Athens, there are samples of various categories of literature – both fiction and non-fiction, scientific and applied. For decades these books constituted the reading material of the inhabitants of this island of Russian culture abroad. One of the volumes found, is the novel by Nikolay Breshko-Breshkovsky (1874–1943) “Crowned Wanderers. A Modern Novel in two Parts, from the Last Balkan Devastation” (Petrograd, Victoria Printing House, 1917, 336 p.). The author, war correspondent, critic, scriptwriter and director, a multifaceted, a sui-generis persona, was quite popular among Russian-speaking readers of the first half of the twentieth century. It is noteworthy that the novels of Breshko-Breshkovsky, this descendant of an old Polish-Ukrainian family and convinced monarchist, reappeared in Russia after the collapse of the USSR. The novel is an example of mass fiction and provides a picture not only of the author's world-view, but, most importantly, that of his audience: both pre-revolutionary and post-war. The fact that the book was read in emigrant communities is indicated eloquently by the various handwritten annotations in the page margins of the specific sample. In this paper it is attempted to explore and comment on the interpretations of existing cultural concepts, to which the once popular novelist leads his readers.

Abstract
In this comparative study we explore the mechanisms through which blending of words takes place in Bulgarian and Romanian and we also aim to clarify the theoretical aspects of their occurrence and functioning. The focus is on new-coined words that consist of clipped parts of two or more source words. The selection of the subject matter is motivated by the escalating influence of such lexical formations across various languages globally, including those under examination. The term traditionally assigned to these lexemes in both Bulgarian and Romanian linguistics is “contamination”, but because of the novelty of the phenomenon a standardized, unitary terminology is not available. This paper endeavors to explain what are the discrepancies and similarities of the process in the two languages. The classification criteria are revisited as well.

Abstract
This paper studies expressions of wishes containing subjunctive forms in Bulgarian and Romanian, aiming to deepen the understanding of the subjunctive in the Balkan context and comparing its usage in wishes between Romanian and Bulgarian. The expressions used in the paper are commonly used in everyday language. The similarities and differences between expressions in both languages are examined.
Based on their meaning, the expressions of wishes are categorized into groups such as health and longevity wishes, invocations of divinity, traditions, condolences, and commonly used wishes without equivalents in the other language.
The paper analyzes the structures of the wishes with subjunctive forms in both languages, categorizing them into common, corresponding, and different schemes. Despite linguistic variations, the analysis reveals significant grammatical and lexical similarities between Bulgarian and Romanian expressions of wishes with subjunctive forms, reflecting the linguistic closeness of the two languages.
