Cuvinte cheie: I.S. Turgenev, Death; critical reception; literary pedagogy; authorial withdrawal.
Abstract
A careful reading of Turgenev's story Death (1848) in the context of its critical reception, highlights the writer's allegiance to a counter-tradition of Russian literature in the 19 th century. His refusal to offer the reader an explicit pedagogy in his works (the hallmark of this counter-tradition), opens up the text to numerous interpretations that run the gamut from gross misreading to ideologization. This authorial attitude, however, should not be read as a sign of indifference, or aloofness. The strategy of “authorial withdrawal” is compensated in Turgenev's works by the presence of a narrator, who reacts promptly and without hesitation to the events in the world of the story, becoming a moral compass for an ideal reader desirous to understand the world depicted by Turgenev and the moral, social and political stakes that structure his fictional universe.

Abstract
To mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Ivo Andrić (1892–1975) our paper aims at describing the translation, publishing and reception activities related to his work in Romania. Through a theoretical approach of the phenomenon of literary translation as an intercultural transfer, we will try to look at the translator as an immersive reader. Special emphasis is placed on the elements of epistolary poetics in the context of literary translation. Ultimately, the hypothesis of our research presupposes the interpretation of translation as an epistolary dialogue.

Strategii de remodelare a realității sovietice în romanul lui Iuri Dombrovski Facultatea lucrurilor de prisos

Cuvinte cheie: manipulation; Yuri Dombrovsky; social reality; Stalinist repressions; judicial system; cult of personality.
Abstract
The article uses Yuri Dombrovsky's novel to identify and analyze the main strategies applied by the Soviet authorities during Stalinist repressions to implement a new social order. Following the arrest and prosecution of the main character – events which are strongly related to the author's personal experience –, Dombrovsky reveals the inconsistencies in the judicial system, which is based on lies. According to the novel, the Alma-Ata police department manipulates evidence in the cases, sentencing innocent people to prison or death. These actions are in response to orders received from the superiors from Moscow, whose sole purpose is to find and destroy the so-called “enemies of the Soviet state”.
From manipulating the judicial system to creating a new social reality in citizens' mind, the writer shows the enormous impact that Soviet propaganda and social values have on people. Using an intricate fabric of lies, logical errors, mystic beliefs and a new language, the authorities control the way people live, think and feel. The terror instilled in those times breaks down the human spirit, creating a society based on hatred and cruelty.
The article analyses the type of lies used by the authorities based on the classifications made by the Polish theorist P. Wierzbicki and several Romanian sociologists. The study also discusses the methods related to the cult of personality and how they affect the general perception of the Soviet leader.

Destinul exilatului între tragedie și înstrăinare: Pavlov în Lebede negre de Gaito Gazdanov

Cuvinte cheie: Gaito Gazdanov; Black Swans; exile; alienation: lost identity; Russian exile literature.
Abstract
The article analyses Pavlov's tragic fate and explores how Gaito Gazdanov constructs this character as a symbol of alienation and the struggle to find meaning in life. The article also examines Pavlov's relationship with the world around him, arguing that his misfortune derives not only from physical exile through separation from his Motherland, but more profoundly, from the character's inability to belong to a certain social category. The article argues that the protagonist is devoid of attachments, isolated, and hopeless. He suffers from philosophical nihilism or deep depression, symbolizing the individual who no longer finds any reason to live.

În căutarea numitorului comun. De ce România? De ce Vazov?
Instituția: Conf. dr., Departamentul de Filologie Rusă și Slavă, Facultatea de Limbi și Literaturi Străine, Universitatea din București

Cuvinte cheie: Bulgarian literature; Ivan Vazov; National Renaissance; Romania; Unloved and Unwanted, Under the Yoke.
Abstract
The article discusses the period spent by Ivan Vazov in Romania and his connection with our country. What makes the writer feel close to the Romanian people and how is this reflected in his work? Is there a moment when Romania, seen as a "hospitable land", becomes a "foreign land"? We will continue to follow how the patriarch of Bulgarian literature relates to the country that was his host in the first years of his creative life. In Vazov's work, Romania is in two antagonistic hypostases. In the years in which he was formed as a writer and fought from the territory of our country for the liberation of his beloved homeland, Romania is a symbol of technical and cultural progress, of admiration for imposing buildings, a space of impatient walks in anticipation of liberation. It then transforms into a "wasteland" or "foreign country" in the short story Unloved and Unwanted written when Bulgaria was in a period of political and social change after the Liberation, and the suffering and hopelessness of these „unloved ”and „unwanted” needed to be highlighted.

Iluzii ale ordinii: prostituția și bordelul heterotopic în romanul Groapa de Aleksandr Kuprin

Cuvinte cheie: Aleksandr Kuprin; The Pit ; prostitution; brothel; Michel Foucault; heterotopia; social order.
Abstract
This paper is a theoretical-analytical study that examines Aleksandr Kuprin 's novel The Pit through Michel Foucault's theory of heterotopias, as developed in his 1966-1967 lectures. The central theme of the article is the cultural and spatial logic of the brothel in Kuprin 's text. Though recent studies have addressed aspects regarding space in Kuprin's work, the broather cultural significance of spatial organization in The Pit remains under-explored. The aim of this research is to show how the brothel functions not only as a literary setting, but also as a heterotopic structure that reflects, manages, and undermines social norms. Our working hypothesis is that the brothel simultaneously supports the illusion of morality and subverts it by exposing the contradictions that sustain it. The analysis demonstrates that Anna Markovna's establishment operates as a heterotopia of illusion and of deviation, governed by a system of openings and closures, capable of juxtaposing incompatible spatial functions in a single real place that reveals the instability of early 20 th century Russian norms regarding sexuality, morality, and social order. Finally, the study also highlights the novel's literary construction of this space as a site of competing voices and perspectives, which shape its narrative complexity.

Abstract
The perception of space is an essential element not only for understanding the phenomenon of emigration, but also for interpreting émigré literature . As soon as they leave their home country, immigrants go through many changes, both geographically (moving to a new country), socially (changing jobs, integrating into a new society), and psychologically (often going through an existential crisis). The purpose of this article is to analyze how Nina Berberova's characters relate not only to their host city and country, but also to the country they were forced to leave, as well as to analyze the various symbolic dimensions that space can acquire in their worldview. To this end, we will consider a series of critical theories regarding space, the context of emigration and exile, the changes that occur in the characters' lives as they experience feelings of loss, and their perception of the space they inhabit.

Moravuri sociale și politice bulgărești între 1879 și 1884 descrise de Konstantin Jireček

Cuvinte cheie: Bulgarian mores; Balkan spirituality; Romanian influence; personal journal.
Abstract
Jirecek's diary is a critical x-ray of the era in which he lived, because the pages of this diary faithfully describe the mores of people – how they behave and how they react to each other – and of the state organizations and institutions (government, parliament and ministries) that facilitate these interactions. Several paragraphs in the diary lead us to assume that Jireček appreciated Bulgarian cultural values and those of Balkan spirituality, represented by the image of society in the process of modernization, above those of the role played by the author and personal emotion, represented by the acid and extremely critical remarks.

Bulgarian travel writing; eccentric travelers; National Revival; mobility; adventure travelogues; Bai Ganyo; cultural identity; communication.
Abstract
This article examines a specific, still insufficiently systematized corpus in Bulgarian travel writing: the travelogues produced by „eccentric“ (atypical) Bulgarian travelers from the late National Revival to the early decades of the twentieth century. Starting from the paradoxical figure of Chorbadzhi Marko in Sub jug—a representative of social inertia who nevertheless appears as an active mover across fields, fairs, and distant relatives—the study outlines the traditional motivations for mobility (trade, labor, pilgrimage) and the gradual emergence of travel as a self-sufficient cultural practice. Against the background of seasonal rural rhythms and the economic logic of fairs, the article traces how border-crossing becomes not merely geographical but existential: a moment of self-recognition through an external mirror, powerfully thematized in the model of Bai Ganyo. The analysis then focuses on early „ adventure travelogues “ that shift attention from commerce toward the act of traveling itself—walking to Paris, cycling across Europe, and journeys to distant continents—highlighting their narrative strategies, pragmatic documentary ethos, and the centrality of communication and linguistic vulnerability. By reading these texts comparatively, the article proposes a typology of eccentric mobility that challenges the stereotype of Bulgarian sedentarism and reveals travel as a formative arena of modern subjectivity.

Polish Oficial Cultural Offer to ROMANIA in the Years 1948-1970

Cuvinte cheie: culture in communism; socialist realism in Poland; socialist realism in Romania; Polish-Romanian cultural relations 1948-70; Polish culture 1948-70.
Abstract
Cultural relations between communist states are a less well-researched topic among historians. Drawing primarily on diplomatic sources, the article explores this issue through the lens of what communist Poland had to offer communist Romania, specifically countries where only official interstate cultural exchange, planned from start to finish by the political authorities, existed. The first part discusses the Stalinist era, which formally facilitated bilateral cultural contacts, as both countries adhered to the socialist realist cultural model. Only such an approach could Poland's official cultural offerings to socialist countries be. A highlight was the international celebration of the Mickiewicz Year in 1955. The second part is devoted to the period 1956-70, which was the most interesting period in the history of Polish culture under communism. This was primarily because Poles, both society and the authorities, quickly rejected socialist realism, and this led to problems with Poland's cultural offerings to other socialist states, where this was not the case. This situation is illustrated by the example of Polish-Romanian relations. The Romanian side did not accept the new forms of culture and Western models that were beginning to dominate in Poland, and changes in this regard were very slow in coming. The Romanian authorities generally favored formalized, ceremonial, and problem-free cultural contacts with Poland.

Abstract
Based on content found on social media, this paper will focus on the sentences mentioned in the title, with the aim of observing their educational potential in practical Russian language courses offered to Romanian-speaking students.
In our research, we started from the premise that sentences containing a proper noun and a verb consonant with the noun can be an effective resource in learning Russian, given the following considerations: due to the formal coincidence between the proper noun and the verb form, the sentences attract attention and produce a certain effect; their minimalist structure makes them easy to memorize and reproduce; they can be used to develop linguistic competence.
We concluded that the sentences we examined have high educational potential and that integrating them into teaching is beneficial.

Abstract
Having set as the main goal of their research the examination of how literary works from Eastern and Central European cultures are selected for primary and secondary school curricula in the Republic of Serbia, the authors of this paper also explore how these texts are interpreted in the classroom. It should be noted that the curricula for the subject Serbian Language and Literature (for both primary and secondary schools) are considered, as the authors aim to emphasize the importance of rethinking the categories of interliterary (i.e., “interliterary community”) and intercultural perspectives from the standpoint of literature teaching methodology and practice. Accordingly, the research material, in a broader sense, comprises works from Czech, Polish, Hungarian, Russian, Ukrainian, Romanian, Slovenian, and Croatian literature. The paper will also offer theoretical and practical guidelines for approaching various poetic models in a teaching context – ranging from the realism of N. V. Gogol to the modernism of I. Cankar, M. Krleža, and F. Molnár, and high modernism or postmodernism in the works of V. V. Nabokov, M. Kundera, W. Szymborska, T. Tzara, and E. Ionesco.
